March 2003
Bucyrus International, Inc. is pleased to announce that we have joined with Immersive Technologies Pty Ltd of Australia in an exclusive agreement to bring simulator training for Bucyrus equipment to surface mines around the world. Simulator training has been used in other industries for years as a proactive training tool for helping to ensure maximum productivity and safety. More recently the Immersive Technologies Simulator has been used to train drivers of large mining haul trucks.
Now as a result of the cooperation between Bucyrus and Immersive Technologies the benefits of simulator training are available to owners of Bucyrus equipment worldwide.
The Simulator is designed as a modular, self contained unit that uses Conversion Kits® to tailor training to not only a specific piece of equipment, such as a 495 or 595 rope shovel, but also to the specific mine at which the operator is working. The operator isn’t training on a generic piece of equipment at a generic mine site. He or she is training on the specific piece of equipment they will be operating at the mine site where they will be working. Mark Johnston, Manager – Training & Support Services, explains, “Using the Simulator reduces the risks associated with training a new operator on an actual piece of equipment. Experienced operators can use the Simulator to hone their skills as well.”
Bucyrus International, Inc. is a major manufacturer of electric mining shovels, draglines and blasthole drills for the surface mining industry. Bucyrus also provides first quality OEM parts, components, maintenance and support services for that equipment.
Immersive Technologies Pty LTD (Inc.) is the world leader in the design and manufacturing of mining equipment simulators for operator training.
